My new Hiking shoe Meindl Ventilator 7000

I have been using Montrail for ten years and at least I had used and worn off 40 pairs of Montrail during my last ten year hiking, until this year that Montrial had no sales agent in HK, So I have to find another shoe for my hiking.. Now this is the Meindl Ventilator 7000.  Once I had inserted my foot into the shoe and I could  immediatley I feel that this is probably the right shoe I am looking for after Montrail.
From the website this is the comment on this shoe...of course we will use other proper insole for replacement of his original filmsy insole...in order to prevent our foot to get premature tireiness. It is in sales at Protrek Hong Kong, since I am a gold member that I can entitle less 20% discount.. that would be a good deal for me...

Here, I’ll refer you back to the La Sportiva Trango review and those promised contradictions and subjective choices. Meindl’s Ventilator 7000 is the antithesis of the superb La Sportiva shoe: it’s light, has a very flexible sole and upper, and is super-cool due to its mesh upper and absence of a waterproof/breathable membrane.
And I love it to bits. If TGO ordered me back to the Pacific Crest Trail for six months (“Oh no, please… oh, okay then…”) this is the shoe I’d choose, of all the models featured here. While heel support is good, the rest of the shoe is what I’d called “relaxed” and pretty much lets your foot behave naturally (though not to the degree of the Hawkshead Cedar reviewed on page 95). There is room for improvement – I found my feet tired early in the Ventilator, and replacing the flimsy insole with a stiffer anatomical insole should ease that considerably.

Ngong Ping 360

We went up there again with a Taiwanese staff and US friend of mine visiting HK for Business trip. It was hot like 32 degrees C. We took two hours and 15 minutes to go up the hill.

Ngong Ping 360 Hiking Under The Cable Car

5 of us including one Malaysian and one US friend and two of our colleague PC and PC...went up to Ngong Ping 360 today under a humid and rather warm day!

We had enjoyed reward of Starbuck Coffee at Ngong Ping market after we had completed the 6.8Km starting from C03 to C29 of the trail. We then told a Cable car back to Tung Chung where we started the Hiking.

Needle Hill on 1 May 2010

There were 16 of us went to these Needle Hill, Grassy Hill, Lead Mine pass, Tai Mo Shan and Then further 22 KM more for the entire stages of 9 and 10 of MacKelose Trail. I dropped out and escorted one Taiwanese engineer after stage 7 back to Shing Mum main Dam after her leg was happened too tired to move on.

Needle Hill with Brian

Brian came to HK for such a hiking on 13 March, As I had a machine buy off that I could not further conquer the Tai Mo Shan, We spent three hours for this Work out : Needle Hill, Grassy Hill, Lead Mine Pass back to Shing Mun Reserviour.  A good Hiking!

Hiking to Lantao Island : Mt. Pheonix, Keung Shan and Tai O...

Yesterday was the 7th day of the Chinese New year 20 Feb 2010, traditionally, this is called "everyone's birthday" in the Lunar new year. A group 6 of us including one French and Singaporean went up the Lantao Trail early at 8:00 am. It was not too cold, a bit foggy and cloudy, it was a exceptional good weather for Hiking. We did approx. 16Km yesterday.

We stared at Tung Chung, took a but to Pak Kung Au whereby we could start the up hill to Pheonix after some warm up. ...After reaching the Peak of 934M, we went down for 30 mins, to the Great Buddha...took some meal and continued the 2nd half of the trail to Keung Shan, Man Cheung Po and ended at the Tai O road....

Hong Kong Trail on the 3rd day of Chinese New Year

The Hong Kong Trail is 50KM long, on the third day of the Chinese New Year. we gathered at MTR HK Station and walked to the bus station at Exchange square, we took a No.15 bus to the Peak., The Peak stand 552M high, from where we started form the morning Trail , walked down to the Pok Fu Lam reserviour for 7Km, then 6 Km from Pok Fu Lam reserviour to Peel Rise. And then 6.5KM from Pok Fu Lam Reserviour to Chi Wan Gap. That trial was the first three of the total 8 second of the Hong Kong Trail, I had an injury on my knee since the last Trail Walker, and I could only make that 19KM in this time. The Temperature was about 10 Degrees and it was a very good weather for Hiking…

Green Power 2009 and 2010

Green Power is an annual Hiking Charity evern in Spirng, Last year we have sent about 12 persons to join,
Bill had run as solo with a result of 7 hours something. This is a 50Km Hiking starting at the Victoria Peak and end at Shek O.

I am not sure my knee will be good to support me to run in this 2010 event on 6th Feb 2010 or not!?

These gentlemen are the major Hiking supporters every week... Matthias went back to Germany with his wife Kuay Wan, Bill, after staying in Hong Kong for 11 years, received a new assignment to work in USA in 2010. Lawrence, who has been holding a record of 10th Participation of OTW without any drop out.
Fung is the youngest and has great potetial candidate to qualifed as Super OTW team member. Mem an Old HK Snob.... will strive for the best I can for coming years for OTW... My Longest time was 36 hour in 2000, and 22 Hour 14 mins in 2005.
This is an historical picture as most of the best Hiking Club member are gathered before we started the MacLehose stage 3 in a Summer of 2007.

A Day Hiking to Tai O

We had a wonderful easy hiking to Tai O, an old Fishing village abd Stilt-houses.

Scenery is good, weather was good, not a tough hiking, good for whole family that you can spend a day there. Then , on the way back you can buy some of the famous produce such as The Shrimp paste and Salt Fish.

How to get there

Tai O Fishing Village, Lantau Island (Outlying Island)1. Catch ferry from Central Pier 6 (MTR Hong Kong Station Exit E1. Walk through ifc mall) to Mui Wo, then bus 1 to Tai O.2. MTR Tung Chung Station, then bus 11 from Tung Chung Town Centre.
